CD Projekt, the renowned game development studio behind titles like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, has announced its financial results for the fiscal year 2022. During the presentation, CEO Adam Kiczynski and CFO Piotr Nelubowicz highlighted the company’s future projects and discussed the latest developments related to Cyberpunk 2077.
According to the executives, the anime series Cyberpunk Edgerunners had a substantial impact on the game’s popularity and sales. The fourth quarter of 2022 was a busy period for the company and turned out to be the second-best quarter in its history (with the best being the quarter in which the game was released). Moreover, the year 2022 was the second-best year in CD Projekt’s history in terms of financial results.
This impact on sales was evident for “many weeks,” and even when sales slowed down, they were still better than before the anime’s release. The studio plans to capitalize on this success by launching a significant marketing campaign for the Phantom Liberty add-on, which is scheduled to release in June. CD Projekt expects the DLC launch to be the biggest event of the year for the studio, and the company has high hopes for its long-term impact on the franchise.
The executives are optimistic that the add-on release will help boost sales of the main game in the long run, further strengthening the Cyberpunk franchise and making it a long-lived game like The Witcher 3. The latter saw a similar effect with the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions, which added significant value to the game and extended its lifespan.
