DEAD ISLAND 2 AND MINECRAFT LEGENDS REMAIN ON TOP DESPITE RATINGS: UK's Top Selling Games

Gamers in the UK don’t seem to pay much attention to game ratings, especially when it comes to popular franchises. The boxed game sales chart for the UK market reveals that Dead Island 2 and Minecraft Legends have maintained their positions on the top despite having ratings between 68-76% on Metacritic.

DEAD ISLAND 2 TAKES THE TOP SPOT

Dead Island 2, which received a rating of 74-76% on Metacritic, emerged as the top-selling game in the UK market. Despite its average rating, the game’s sales have skyrocketed, proving that gamers are still drawn to the zombie-themed game.

MINECRAFT LEGENDS FOLLOWS CLOSELY

Minecraft Legends, which is rated 68-72% on Metacritic, managed to claim the second spot. The game’s performance on the Nintendo Switch platform is exceptional, accounting for a massive 76% of its sales. In contrast, only 12% of the game’s sales are on PS5/PS4, and a meager 5% are on Xbox due to Xbox Game Pass availability.

EXCLUSIVE NINTENDO SWITCH GAMES ARE A BIG HIT

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, a Nintendo Switch exclusive, made its debut on the UK boxed game release sales rankings at third place. It is another example of how exclusive Nintendo games are taking the market by storm.

Nintendo’s famous mascot, Super Mario, also remains a fan favorite, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey securing the fourth and sixth spots, respectively. The release of “Super Mario Brothers at the Movies” is further spurring interest in games featuring the mustachioed plumber.

OTHER TOP SELLING GAMES

FIFA 23, the latest installment in the popular FIFA series, came in at fifth place. Hogwarts Legacy, the action role-playing video game set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, secured the seventh spot, followed by Resident Evil 4, which is a re-release of the popular horror game. Minecraft, God of War Ragnarok, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe followed close behind.

CALL OF DUTY, NINTENDO SWITCH SPORTS, AND LEGENDARY FRANCHISES

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, a first-person shooter game, is still holding its own at twelfth place. Nintendo Switch Sports and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, two other exclusive Nintendo games, also made it to the list at thirteenth and fifteenth place, respectively.

Grand Theft Auto V, Pokémon Violet, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, WWE 2K23, and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga round out the rest of the top-selling games in the UK market.
